☀️ AI Morning Minute: Perplexity
The "Truth Engine": An AI that shows its work and lives on the live web.
What it means:
Perplexity is an AI-powered Search Engine that combines a chatbot’s conversational skill with a search engine's real-time accuracy. Unlike standard AIs that rely on training data from months ago, Perplexity searches the live internet for every question you ask. It then writes a concise summary and provides clickable Footnotes so you can verify exactly where the information came from.
Why it matters:
No More Hallucinations: By forcing the AI to use “Retrieval” (RAG) for every answer, Perplexity is much less likely to make things up than a standard chatbot.
The “Model Council”: In early 2026, Perplexity launched a feature called “Model Council” (for Max users). This allows you to ask one question and see a side-by-side comparison of how GPT-5.2, Claude 4.6, and Gemini 3 answer it.
Deep Research Mode: Its 2026 “Pro Search” can perform multi-step research. It will look up a fact, realize it needs more info, perform a second search, and synthesize it all into a professional report with charts and data tables.
Source Transparency: It has become the favorite tool for journalists and researchers because it doesn’t ask you to “trust” it; it gives you the links to the original articles and scientific papers.
Simple example:
Think of a standard AI like a brilliant but slightly forgetful professor who is locked in a room without a phone. They might give you a great lecture, but they might get a date or a name wrong because they’re relying on memory. Perplexity is that same professor, but they have unlimited high-speed Wi-Fi and a team of researchers checking their facts in real-time as they speak.
